According to Iniesta, Messi’s Copa America victory is a weight lifted off his shoulders.

After winning the Copa America on Saturday, Barcelona star Andres Iniesta feels a weight has been taken off Lionel Messi’s shoulders.

By defeating Brazil 1-0 in the Copa America final at the Maracana Stadium, the 34-year-old finally ended his lengthy wait for a championship with the national team.

Iniesta hailed Messi’s performance throughout the competition and believes the victory will be a tremendous relief for the captain.

There’s been no hiding Messi’s delight at the victory. The captain certainly enjoyed the celebrations after the final whistle and posted a sweary message on Instagram as he posed with the trophy. The bit that doesn’t need asterisks reads, “What a beautiful madness!!! This is amazing, thank God!!! WE ARE CHAMPIONS.”

Messi is no stranger to Argentina losing finals, but he said that following Saturday’s victory, he can relax and enjoy his vacation. “We always had to spend the first few days of the holidays depressed because we hadn’t won anything,” he told reporters, “but this time it’s different.”
