Indian archers Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari have urged East Delhi MP Gautam Gambhir not to convert the Yamuna Sports Complex’s archery area into a cricket stadium.

Gautam Gambhir, a former international cricketer, shared a video of the ground at the sports facility, which is now undergoing renovations, on Twitter.

Gautam Gambhir has been requested by Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari.

Following Gambhir’s post, several archery fans and players, including Deepika Kumari, Atanu Das, and Abhishek Verma, begged the MP not to turn the facility into a cricket ground. In 2010, the DDA’s Yamuna Sports Complex featured archery events as part of the Commonwealth Games, and it is now utilized to organize archery tournaments and teach young archers from across the country.

Gautam Gambhir later emphasized that the ground is being improved rather than converted into a cricket pitch. The MP stated in a tweet that the ground is being improved so that it can be utilized for a variety of sports.

Lokesh Chand, an instructor at the Yamuna Sports Complex’s Archery Association of India academy, spoke to Sportskeeda about the facility.

“Mr Gambhir has guaranteed us time and time again that this will always be an archery ground. Nonetheless, he used Twitter to market it as East Delhi’s first international stadium. We are frightened by such tweets.”
Although Chand agrees that upgrading the facility is beneficial, he believes the land should preserve its uniqueness.

“There is some improvement work going on, which is fantastic. They have built a pavilion, put floodlights, and installed a scoreboard, but it is not a cricket ground. At this location, Indian archery has made history. Every year, this ground produces a worldwide archer. It should always be labeled as an archery target, not a cricket target.”
Lokesh Chand also questioned whether East Delhi truly requires a new cricket stadium. He stated, “

East Delhi is also home to the famous Feroz Shah Kotla Ground. Over the years, it has hosted numerous international matches. Then why is this — Delhi’s only archery ground – being advertised as an East Delhi cricket ground?”
The coach was likewise perplexed as to why no upgrades had been made to accommodate the archery players’ needs.
