At the Copa America, Messi is on fire.

The Argentine international scored his 73rd international goal with a superb free-kick in his side’s 1-1 draw with Chile in the tournament’s opening.

In Argentina’s second Group B match against Uruguay, he provided a superb assist for Guido Rodriguez to secure his team a 1-0 victory.

Messi took the ball from a short corner, shifted around his man, and sent a fantastic cross to the back post, where Rodriguez nodded in.

This is a huge three points for the Albiceleste, since it puts them in first place in their group and puts them one step closer to the competition’s quarter-finals. Paraguay, on the other side, could still overtake them if they win their game in hand.

The Barcelona forward has never won the Copa America, and many believe this is his final chance to do so. If Argentina is to be successful this summer, they will rely heavily on their superstar Messi to lead them to victory.

Messi appears to be doing close to his peak in his first two tournament appearances. However, the 33-year-old will be looking to reach yet another level in order to silence his critics at the international level and win his first medal with the Argentina national team.
