Barcelona is interested in bringing in a Chelsea player with whom they had made a personal terms agreement in January.
Barcelona has had a good summer transfer activity thus far. Sergio Aguero, Memphis Depay, and Eric Garcia have all joined on free transfers. The club is under financial difficulty and will aim to shed a number of players this summer. Joan Laporta, the club’s president, has also stated that three or four additional additions will be made before the transfer season shuts.
Let’s take a look at the top stories surrounding Barcelona from June 26, 2021, without further ado.
Manchester City interested in Antoine Griezmann
Antoine Griezmann, despite being one of Barcelona’s finest players in the 2020-21 season, could be let go this summer. Griezmann is one of the club’s best earners, and the Catalans need to free up finances.
Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing the Frenchman as a replacement for Harry Kane, according to Fichajes. This summer, Pep Guardiola and his team have made signing the Tottenham Hotspur striker a top priority. If they are unsuccessful in their pursuit of Kane, the Cules will aim to capture Griezmann from Barcelona.
Following Sergio Aguero’s departure, Manchester City are aiming to bring in a top forward this summer. They are now in need of strikers.
Barcelona pushing for Lionel Messi to sign new contract before July 1
On July 1st, Lionel Messi’s current contract with Barcelona will end. According to the BBC, the Catalans have yet to strike an agreement with Messi over a new contract, despite recent rumours to the contrary. The club wants to announce Messi’s contract renewal before the beginning of July, and they are pressuring him to sign it.
Extending Messi’s contract has its own set of challenges. Barcelona is said to need to save €200 million on salaries. To balance their pay cost if they accept Messi’s demands, they will have to sell a number of stars.
Joan Laporta is ready to offer Messi a two-year deal, according to the report. Messi’s ambition to play in the MLS after the Qatar World Cup in 2022 is apparently known to the club. They do, however, want to see him return to the club in whatever capacity he chooses in the future.

Barcelona interested in Marcos Alonso
Barcelona is on the lookout for a new left-back. They’re on the lookout for a long-term successor for Jordi Alba, who has been linked with a move away from the club. Junior Firpo, his current deputy, is also scheduled to be let go this summer.
Under Frank Lampard, Marcos Alonso was on the verge of leaving Chelsea. However, under new manager Thomas Tuchel, he has made more appearances. Barcelona has expressed interest in the Spanish left-back, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Barcelona is said to have signed an agreement with Alonso on personal matters in January. The plan, however, did not come to fruition. The 30-year-old has struggled to make an impact at Chelsea as a full-back. He is, however, one of the top wing-backs in the world and a significantly superior player when his primary role is to attack.
