Brazil survives a late attack from Chile to get to the Copa semifinals.

Reuters, Rio de Janeiro is a city in Brazil.
Brazil beat Chile 1-0 on Friday, advancing to the Copa America semi-finals against Peru despite losing Gabriel Jesus to a red card early in the second half.

Within seconds after coming on as a half-time substitution, Lucas Paqueta put the reigning champions up 1-0, but the game was turned around moments later when Jesus was sent off for a brutally high challenge on Eugenio Mena.

For much of the second half, Chile put the hosts on the back foot, but they couldn’t find that crucial equalizer.

As a result of the victory, Brazil will face Peru in the inaugural Copa semi-final on July 5 at Rio’s Nilton Santos stadium, after Peru defeated Paraguay on penalties earlier in the day.

Argentina will face Ecuador in the other quarter-final on Saturday, while Uruguay will face Colombia.
