Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing a £27 million rated midfielder who has garnered comparisons to Sadio Mane.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea will compete with Everton for the signing of Senegalese midfielder Pape Matar Sarr from Ligue 1 club FC Metz (via Football London).

Despite being a central midfielder, Sarr has been compared to Sadio Mane, another Senegalese star. Sarr has been compared to Mane by Senegal national team boss Aliou Cisse because the youthful midfielder is capable of playing in numerous systems, just like the Liverpool star. Cisse stated,

“He reminds me of Sadio Mane.” True, he has less experience and has shown less than Mane, but he can play in a variety of systems.”
In November 2020, the 18-year-old midfielder made his Metz debut. Sarr has since progressed to full international status, attracting the attention of a number of Premier League clubs, including Chelsea and Everton.

According to the aforementioned source, Everton are now leading the fight to recruit Sarr, with Chelsea joining the fray as well.

Pape Sarr’s contract with Metz expires in four years, despite interest from Chelsea and Everton. The Ligue 1 club, on the other hand, is seeking a fee of around £27 million from any interested parties.

Pape Matar Sarr could be a useful signing for Chelsea

Pape Matar Sarr, a Senegalese midfielder, might be a valuable addition to Chelsea’s roster if the Blues opt to sign him from Metz. Sarr has a reputation for being an active box-to-box midfielder with a knack for scoring the occasional goal. The 18-year-old is capable of playing in any midfield position.

Everton, on the other hand, are in pole position to capture the Metz midfield prodigy. The price has risen to £27 million due to interest from rival Premier League clubs such as Manchester United, Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Newcastle United.

Despite Chelsea’s interest in the midfielder, they are still looking for a new centre-back, with Sevilla’s Jules Kounde on their wish list.

The Blues have already spent a lot of money on Romelu Lukaku, having bought the Belgian forward for a club-record £97.5 million from Inter Milan. Chelsea has had a quiet transfer window aside from Lukaku, which might explode in the final two weeks.
