On Wednesday, Italy and Spain will face off in a thrilling semi-final at Wembley Stadium to determine the first Euro 2020 semifinal.
The two European powerhouses have met four times in the last three editions of the competition, including the infamous 2012 final, which La Roja won handily. Both teams, however, have changed since that meeting, with the Azzurri now considered heavy favorites to win the tournament this year.
Due to a strong defense, Italy is the only side in the competition to have won all of its games thus far, conceding only two goals. Meanwhile, Luis Enrique’s side has gradually found their stride, scoring five goals in a row (against Slovakia and Croatia) before defeating Switzerland in a penalty shootout.
This is Spain’s first appearance in a major event semi-final since winning the Euros nine years ago. They’ll be hungry to reach the final once more, albeit it won’t be easy against a ruthless Italian team.
