For breaking a contract, the SLC imposes a one-year suspension on Bhanuka Rajapaksa.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa has been banned for a year by Sri Lanka Cricket after he was found guilty of breaching the Player Contract 2019-20 during “social and other media interviews.” He was also fined $5,000 by the board for the same offense.

However, the Sri Lankan cricket governing body has lifted the two-year ban, allowing Bhanuka Rajapaksa to play again. The selection committee has selected him into the 13-member squad that has been practising in Colombo ahead of the series against India since he passed the fitness tests.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa recently attacked the team management’s decision to dismiss him due to poor fitness during an interview on a YouTube channel. His claim was that there were no policies in place regarding the fitness of players for selection.

Mickey Arthur, Sri Lanka’s coach, has chastised Bhanuka Rajapaksa for his lack of fitness.

In October 2019, Bhanuka Rajapaksa made his international debut in a T20I against Pakistan. He scored 140 runs with a strike rate of 130.84 in seven T20I appearances for Sri Lanka. However, after the series against India in January 2020, Rajapaksa was dropped from the Sri Lankan T20I team.

Since the Indian trip, the 29-year-old batsman has not participated in an international match. Rajapaksa then went on a YouTube channel to blame his mistreatment on the team’s management.

Bhanuka’s comments infuriated Sri Lanka coach Mickey Arthur. Rajapaksa did not put much emphasis on his fitness, Arthur claimed in an interview with The Island. When the team’s management told him he needed to focus on his diet, he justified it by saying he enjoyed chocolates.

Rajapaksa, on the other hand, appears to have reached the appropriate level of fitness presently. It will be intriguing to watch if he is named in the final squad for the home series against India by the selectors.
