‘I believe Max will develop into a Senna-like figure.’

Former Formula One driver Michael Bleekemolen believes that Max Verstappen will be the new Ayrton Senna due to his talent and popularity.

Since joining the Formula One grid in 2015, Verstappen has been compared to Senna several times due to his aggressive racing style and raw speed.

This season, he’s proving those analogies more than ever, leading the championship race by 32 points after winning four of the last five races.

The Red Bull man is having a major impact on the sport off the track as well, as evidenced by the large Dutch crowds cheering him on in Austria.

Bleekemolen believes he will follow in the footsteps of Senna in many areas, given how successful he has been and how much support he has received.

“He has a huge following [popularity].” It’s not normal; the world press reflects this,” he told De Telegraaf.

“I believe Max will evolve into a Senna-like character over time.

“Of course, he’s gotten a lot of attention for a long time. The Brazilian was the same way: unstoppable, fascinating, and colorful.”

Verstappen had never fought for a championship before this year, but he is now the clear favorite to be crowned World Champion at the end of the season.

He has been greatly aided by the fact that Red Bull has created a car that appears to be stronger than Mercedes’, winning at tracks that have previously been strongholds for the German team.

Bleekemolen believes the 23-year-old could win anywhere at this time.

“What is going on is no longer normal. “It appears that he is doing well everywhere,” he informed GPFans.

“Of course, we’ll see that in the next race at Silverstone, which is a completely different style of track, but I think he’ll go fast there as well.”

While Verstappen’s potential has never been questioned, he has been chastised in the past for making too many mistakes, particularly when attempting to overtake.

However, such errors have not been made this year, and his buddy believes he has achieved a new level.

“I was thinking about it; we don’t catch him making mistakes very often now. Those were the days. He’s at a different level now,” Bleekemolen explained.
