Samuel Eto’o, a Barcelona icon, has showered admiration on his former teammate Lionel Messi. From 2004 to 2009, the pair won three La Liga crowns and two Champions League trophies together.
Eto’o witnessed Lionel Messi’s development from a young prodigy to the superstar he is today at Barcelona. The Cameroonian was asked about his early views of playing with Lionel Messi at Barcelona by Argentinian news site La Nacion earlier this week. He stated, “
“It was, after all, the birth of football’s God. Only a handful football gods have existed. And Argentina gave us two gods: one is buried by his father (Diego Maradona), and the other is still alive and well in our world. I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunity to play alongside Messi and to have experienced his football. I never had the chance to play with Diego in person, but I used to watch him on TV a lot as a kid and thought what he could do with the ball was great.”
Eto’o also feels that Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are on the same level, and that Kylian Mbappe, a French striker, will be the two superstars’ successors in the future. He stated, “
“Cristiano is a god unto himself. They, along with Messi, are the players who have left the most imprint on modern football. But when Messi and Cristiano tire of bringing us delight, another God will appear. Kylian Mbappé will be the next God.”
