Lionel Messi, Argentina’s captain, is on track to win his first-ever Copa America Golden Boot at the ongoing tournament.
In the Copa America 2021, Lionel Messi has been the star performance. So far in the competition, the 34-year-old Argentine skipper has scored four goals, one more than his colleague Lautaro Martinez.
Neymar, Messi’s former Barcelona colleague, is also in contention, with two goals in the competition. Several other players have also scored two goals at the Copa America, with Lucas Paqueta and Papu Gomez the only ones who will play in the final.
Lionel Messi scored three goals in the group stage, including a brace in a 4-1 win over Bolivia. In the Copa America’s first match in 2021, he scored against Chile in the group stage. In Argentina’s 3-0 quarterfinal victory over Ecuador, the six-time Ballon d’Or winner scored the game’s final goal, giving him a total of four goals in the tournament.
Apart from scoring four goals, Lionel Messi has added five assists to help Argentina reach yet another Copa America final, where they will face an in-form Brazil team.

Lautaro needs just 1 goal to take the award, as minutes played is used as the tiebreaker.
