Following the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum, Liverpool are looking to bolster their midfield. Liverpool are reportedly interested in Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn, according to The Athletic.
McGinn was a standout performer for Aston Villa in the 2020-21 season. During Aston Villa’s 7-2 hammering of Liverpool early in the season, the Scotland international apparently impressed Jurgen Klopp.
McGinn’s Scotland colleague and Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson was reportedly asked about the player by the Liverpool boss after being impressed by his work rate. Klopp has previously shown his appreciation for McGinn in public.
In September 2019, Klopp commented to the press about Andy Robertson’s role in the Scottish national team (via The Daily Record):
“You can’t win a game as a left-back by yourself. It’s simply not feasible. He doesn’t have to because you have other talented guys like John McGinn, who is a fantastic player, Robert Snodgrass, who is a fantastic player, and Scott McTominay, who has a lot of potential.”
