Manchester United are making headway in their pursuit of a La Liga superstar, according to reports.

Manchester United and Villarreal defender Pau Torres are apparently moving closer to a deal. Torres has been reported as a key target for United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is looking for a centre-back to complement Harry Maguire at the heart of his defense.

Manchester United has made Pau Torres a priority signing, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Real Madrid has rejected Manchester United’s offer for Raphael Varane, as the Red Devils are unwilling to accept Los Blancos’ €80 million estimate for the defender. As a result, they are concentrating all of their efforts this summer on luring Torres to Old Trafford.

Torres’ current contract with Villarreal expires in 2024. The defender has a €60 million release clause, but according to the source, while the club would love to receive the whole sum, they would accept a player-plus-cash deal if clubs could not match Torres’ price.

Torres was a great player in La Liga during the 2020-21 season, and he’s now leading Spain’s defense at Euro 2020.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is anxious to sign the 24-year-old, who he sees as a long-term partner for Harry Maguire at Manchester United.

Manchester United is expected to make a big statement in the summer transfer window.

Apart from Torres, Manchester United is aiming to bolster their squad in other areas. The Red Devils and Borussia Dortmund are currently negotiating a contract for England winger Jadon Sancho.

Manchester United failed to sign Sancho last summer, but are growing increasingly optimistic that they will be able to do so during this transfer window.

The winger is said to have already agreed to personal terms with Manchester United, and all that’s left is to come up with an acceptable amount to close the move.

Dortmund has already turned down a £72 million offer from the Red Devils, who are demanding €90 million for the winger. Manchester United, on the other hand, appears to be on the verge of completing the transaction.
