Manchester United have increased their pre-season preparations by traveling to Scotland for a three-day training camp. The Red Devils will play Everton in their final pre-season friendly at Old Trafford on Saturday before kicking off the 2021-22 season against Leeds a week later. By then, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be hoping for a few more changes to his squad.
Manchester United are currently looking for midfield reinforcements, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has plans to loan out a few young players. This summer, the Red Devils may be tempted to sign a new striker.
On that note, let’s take a look at the top Manchester United transfer stories as of 3 August 2021.
Manchester United are rumored to prioritize the signing of Erling Haaland over the signing of Harry Kane.
Former Manchester United midfielder Luke Chadwick believes the Red Devils will bypass the race to sign Harry Kane and instead focus on signing Erling Haaland next summer. Kane’s future is being discussed after the Englishman failed to show up for pre-season training with Tottenham Hotspur. Manchester City are the frontrunners in the race to sign Kane, with Manchester United keeping a close eye on developments.

However, in an interview with Caught Offside, Chadwick stated that Haaland would be a better option for the Red Devils than Kane.
“I think the profile of the player United are looking for – obviously, Kane would be a huge signing, but I think they are waiting for Erling Haaland,” Chadwick explained.
“They’ve kept Edinson Cavani for another year, which could pave the way for Haaland to come in next summer – he’s a younger player, an incredible goal-scorer, and I think he fits the United mould better than Harry Kane,” Chadwick continued.
In Ruben Neves’ pursuit, the Red Devils take a blow.
Manchester United’s pursuit of Ruben Neves has been thwarted. This summer, both Manchester United and Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing the Portuguese midfielder. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Neves could be the missing piece in his midfield puzzle.
The Portuguese, on the other hand, has hinted that he may stay at Molineux beyond the summer. In an interview with Wolves TV, Neves praised new Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Bruno Lage and stated that he was excited to work with him, which could jeopardize Manchester United’s plans.
“He is an excellent coach. “I am thrilled to be working with him,” Neves said.
Sheffield United is interested in signing a loan deal for a Manchester United youth player.
According to The Sun, Sheffield United are interested in signing James Garner on loan this summer. The Englishman is seen as a replacement for Sander Berge, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal. Garner impressed while on loan at Watford and Nottingham Forest last season.
Sheffield United are now hoping to sign the 20-year-old on loan for the rest of the season. With a plethora of midfield talent at Old Trafford, the Red Devils may decide to loan Garner out again to further his development. The Blades, however, may face competition from Nottingham Forest, who are expected to want Garner back.
