Match Recap: Belgium vs. Italy at Euro 2020

|

Italy’s winning streak at Euro 2020 was extended with a 2-1 victory over Belgium, the world’s top-ranked squad.

When Leonardo Bonucci wheeled away in jubilation with the ball in the back of the net in the 13th minute, the Italians appeared to have gotten off to the perfect start. Bonucci appeared to have bundled Lorenzo Insigne’s free kick over the line, but the goal was ruled offside after a VAR review.

Kevin De Bruyne’s outstanding performance is a significant reason for Belgium’s perfect record at Euro 2020, which includes a win against Portugal last time out. In the early phases of the game, he was once again a threat.

De Bruyne’s powerful drive pushed Gianluigi Donnarumma into a stunning diving save after cutting in from the right and moving the ball onto his left foot. Donnarumma had a strong first half performance and was up to the task as he got low to deny Romelu Lukaku’s well-placed shot.
