In one of the most high-profile round-of-16 matches in UEFA Euro 2020, Belgium and Portugal will trade tackles.
The Belgians breezed through the group stage, winning three games and securing first place in Group B. The world’s top-ranked nation was one of only three teams to finish the group stage with a perfect record, with Italy and the Netherlands.
Portugal advanced to this stage as the best third-placed team after finishing third in a tense Group F conclusion. Fans of the Iberian nation will be hoping that lightning strikes again for the defending champions, just as it did five years ago.
The winner of this match will face either Italy or Austria in the quarterfinals.
Portugal vs. Belgium Head-to-Head
This will be the 19th meeting between the two teams, with Portugal holding a slight advantage in prior encounters.
The Selecao has six victories to their credit, whereas Belgium has won five times. Seven previous matchups between the two teams ended in draws.
One of those ties came in their most recent match, a goalless draw in a friendly warm-up match before of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Since a 2-1 loss to England at Wembley in the UEFA Nations League in October 2020, Belgium has not lost in any competition. The Red Devils have gone 12 games without losing since then, with 10 of those games ending in victories.
