Ranking the top five players from the Euro 2020 semi-finals

We’re down to two teams at Euro 2020 after nearly a month of high-octane activity. On Sunday, England will face Italy in the final of the continental competition at Wembley Stadium.

While other European powerhouses, such as France, Germany, and Portugal, have fallen behind, England and Italy have managed to keep their ground. They’ve been two of the tournament’s most consistent teams, and they’ve earned their place in the final.

In the Euro 2020 semi-finals, England and Italy were put to the test.

On Tuesday, Italy faced Spain in what turned out to be a fascinating match. La Roja dominated possession and pressed the Azzurri, but they lacked the clinical precision to turn their advantage into goals.

Italy took the lead through Federico Chiesa, but Spain equalized in the 80th minute thanks to Alvaro Morata’s goal. In the end, the game was decided on penalties, with Italy winning 4-2 in the shootout.

On Wednesday, England and Denmark faced off for a place in the final, and it was a thrilling contest between two well-drilled teams. After a 1-1 draw in normal time, England won the game in extra time thanks to a Harry Kane goal.

Without a doubt, the Euro 2020 final will be thrilling. Let’s take a look at five of the greatest players from the Euro 2020 semi-finals first.

#5 Kasper Schmeichel (Denmark)

England v Denmark - UEFA Euro 2020: Semi-final
England v Denmark – UEFA Euro 2020: Semi-final

Kasper Schmeichel gave it his all again again, but was unlucky to lose. Against the Three Lions, he made a total of nine saves, but his efforts were in naught as Denmark was defeated in extra-time.

Schmeichel stepped up to the plate and used outstanding positioning to deny Raheem Sterling just before England’s equalizer.

The Leicester City goalkeeper was helpless to stop Simon Kjaer from scoring an own goal. To maintain the score at 1-1, he lunged himself to his right and swiped away a Harry Maguire header. Schmeichel also guessed correctly on how to stop Kane’s penalty, but the ball dropped pleasantly to the England striker, who tapped it home with ease.

The 34-year-old goalie has matured into a true professional. However, despite his best efforts, the Danes were unable to advance to the Euro 2020 final.
