The Saurashtra batsman has been in dreadful form of late, and he struggled in the WTC final. Pujara’s average of 30.33 represents a significant drop from the 46.09 recorded in 2019.

In addition, in 12 innings in 2021, he has only four fifties. Pujara hasn’t hit a century in his last 30 innings, and he’s only managed nine single-digit runs since his last ton.

Will Cheteshwar Pujara be a part of the starting lineup?

Cheteshwar Pujara walking out with Rohit Sharma to see off the new ball might not be a bad idea. Pujara’s six innings as an opener have produced two 50+ scores and a century, with scores of 41*, 28, 52, 82*, and 145*.

However, Pujara’s move to opener may force India to hunt for a reliable alternative at No. 3, a position he has carved out for himself. There’s also a good chance Pujara will be benched. While he is a valuable asset, he is now
ineffective and jeopardizes India’s prospects of winning the series against England.
