Dinesh Karthik thanked his fans for their support and appreciation during his first stint as a commentator in a moving statement.
Apart from Sunil Gavaskar, Karthik was the lone Indian voice on the ICC commentary panel for the World Test Championship final. The wicketkeeper-batsman was at a loss for words when asked to convey how his sincere endeavour to learn more about the “other side” of the game has been worth it solely because of the love he has gotten.
“This one, I just cannot describe in words… I started this journey to experience the other side of cricket and wanted to share the journey with y’all too… and the love and appreciation I got from everyone just made everything worth it! Love you all!” Dinesh Karthik wrote in an Instagram post.
Dinesh Karthik accompanied his message with a 90-second video. This chronicled his whole voyage during the six-day summit showdown, including behind-the-scenes footage from the commentary box, his ‘weatherman’ updates, and snatches of fan-made posters praising his mic talents.
Dinesh Karthik’s term as a commentator will now include the first Hundred, a 100-ball-per-innings game set to begin on July 21 in England.

In terms of cricket, Dinesh Karthik last played an international match in July of this year. Despite solid achievements in domestic cricket and the IPL, he hasn’t found himself in the selectors’ good graces since then.
Karthik, on the other hand, expressed great belief in his ability to earn selection for the 2017 T20 World Cup and contribute to the team’s middle order in a recent interview with Sportskeeda.
“100%. I think if you go by my stats, in domestic cricket, in the IPL, in T20Is – I’m very confident and I genuinely believe I should be there in the team. The rest is up to the selectors and the think tank to obviously pick the team. I believe I can contribute to this team in the middle order and I’m looking forward to showcasing my skills in the T20 format,” said Karthik.
When the IPL 2021 begins in the United Arab Emirates, Dinesh Karthik may have one last chance to stake his claim for the title. If Eoin Morgan is unavailable due to national duty, he might be in line to reclaim the captaincy.
