Yankees veteran opts out of minor-league deal, according to reports in Major League Baseball.

The Yankees never gave the soon-to-be 32-year-old a shot in the big leagues this season. In 36 games at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, he hit.215 with five home runs and 22 RBI. He saw action at second base 17 times, first base 11 times, and third base nine times. The Yankees regularly passed him over for a promotion, opting instead for rookie Chris Gittens and recently traded Mike Ford at first base.

Dietrich will look for a new team where he can have a greater chance of making the MLB squad. In 746 games, he hit.245 with 82 home runs in eight seasons in the majors. His career OPS in the big leagues is.762.

During spring training, the Yankees called him in to fight for the final two places on the roster, which went to Tyler Wade and Jay Bruce.

Following Saturday’s 8-3 loss to the Mets at Yankee Stadium, the Yankees released the following statement:

The Yankees went 1-3 on their six-game homestand, which was cut short due to rain, and have now lost six of their last seven games after winning seven of their previous nine. • This season, they went 3-5 in Interleague play. LHP Jordan Montgomery began and took his third loss of the season (4.1IP, 6H, 3ER, 3BB, 6K). After going undefeated in his previous 11 starts (4/23-6/20), he has lost consecutive starts for only the second time in his career (also two starts from 5/12-18/17). All three runs were allowed in the fifth inning, including a Dominic Smith RBI single…exited with two men on base.

on… Luetge entered the game as a pinch runner and allowed both inherited runners to score. After winning each of his previous six outings and eight of his previous nine, the Yankees have lost each of his last two starts.
